CompTIA Linux+ Certification (powered by LPI)

CompTIA Linux+ Exam Overview

The latest CompTIA Linux+ (Powered by LPI) exam consists of two tests, coded LX0-101 and LX0-102. Each of the two is made of 60 questions and has a passing score of 500 points on a 200-800 scale. The time limit for completion of each of the exams is 90 minutes.

Due to mutual agreements between CompTIA, Linux Professional Institute (LPI), and Novell, at the time of taking the exam it is possible to choose whether to pass CompTIA Linux+ exam results to the Linux Professional Institute (and at no cost automatically become LPIC-1 certified). The LPI credentials can be passed to Novell in order to be able to apply (again at no cost) for the Novell Certified Linux Administrator (NCLA) Certification.

All three certificates put together will have no more value than any single one of them alone, but when it comes to more advanced certifications offered by LPI (LPIC-2), an active LPIC-1 certification is required to be able to receive LPIC-2 certification.

In case of the more advanced certifications offered by Novell (such as Novell Certified Linux Professional), the Novell Certified Linux Administrator (NCLA) Certification is also required to be able to take those exams. In case of choosing the LPIC-2 and/or Novell learning path, CompTIA Linux+ (Powered by LPI) Certification fulfils the prerequisites for those exams (it is not necessary to pay for and take the same exam more than once). The other important thing in favour of the CompTIA Linux+ is that this chain works only one way.

Exam Retake Policy

CompTIA does not offer any free re-tests nor discounts on retakes, and candidates must pay the exam price each time they attempt the exam. There is no waiting period between the first (1st) and second (2nd) attempt to pass the exam, only before the third (3rd) attempt or any subsequent attempt there is a mandatory wait period of at least fourteen (14) calendar days from the date of the last attempt.
