In a twisted-pair copper cable individual wires are grouped into pairs and wires in each pair are twisted around each other to reduce signal interference from adjacent wire pairs (effect known as crosstalk). Examples of twisted-pair cabling include Unshielded Twisted-Pair (UTP) and Shielded Twisted Pair (STP) cabling. The difference between UTP and STP is that STP cabling takes advantage of additional protective cover that allows for reducing signal interference from outside sources.
